- The Minneapolis Youth Coordinating Board
was created in 1986 through a state-authorized joint powers agreement
between the City of Minneapolis, Minneapolis Public Schools, Minneapolis
Park and Recreation Board, Minneapolis Public Library Board, and the
Hennepin County Board of Commissioners.
- The YCB is governed by a thirteen-member board
of elected officials representing the partners as well as a Minneapolis
member from both the Minnesota House of Representatives and the Minnesota
State Senate.
- In an effort to foster collaboration and cooperation,
the Board also includes several functional leaders of the YCB partner
entities as ex-officio members. This practice enables the Board to
focus on problem solving and action-oriented solutions. In
2004, the YCB extended ex-officio membership to the leaders of three
area foundations. The inclusion of foundation leaders as ex-officio
members is a step towards true collaboration for the benefit of all
Minneapolis children and youth.
- The YCB sponsors several initiatives designed to ensure the healthy
development and schools success of all Minneapolis children and youth.
You can learn about the Initiatives
here.
- In addition to the Initiatives, the YCB serves as the home of the
Minneapolis Redesign , the Minneapolis
Family Service Collaborative. The Redesign provides funding for many
programs and collaborations designed to increase student achievement.
Some of these programs and collaborations are listed here.
