All Minneapolis children enter kindergarten ready to learn:
Currently, only half of Minneapolis children enter kindergarten ready
to learn. By leveraging resources and relationships, the YCB is working
to 1) improve child care environments, so young children receive appropriate
school readiness support from their caregivers; and 2) shape an
effective early childhood system, so families have access to effective
school readiness services.
All Minneapolis Children and Youth Succeed in School:
When children are struggling with social, physical or emotional needs,
it’s hard for them to do their best in school. If teachers take
class time to help students with non-academic problems, there is less
time for teaching. When families have difficulty accessing needed
services, their ability to meet the needs of their children is compromised.
Through several supportive, collaborative initiatives, the YCB is
working to address the needs of children, promote parent and community
involvement and prevent truancy in order to ensure academic success
for all Minneapolis students. ...link
All Minneapolis Children and Youth are prepared for the
opportunities and challenges of adolescence and adulthood:
Youth Development stresses the importance of assisting youth to become
healthy, self-confident, independent adults who have a sense of their
future. Therefore, child and youth development focuses on strengthening
the competencies and confidence of young people, developing character
and connectedness, and nurturing the talents young people already
possess. Child and youth development occurs in families, schools,
neighborhoods and society - suggesting that we all play a role in
the well-being
of our citys children and youth.
The YCB does not provide services directly to children or youth.
Rather, the YCB is a capacity-building organization and pursues its
goals through a set of overlapping strategies.
The YCB Strategies Are:
Analyzing and Disseminating Information– collecting,
synthesizing and communicating accurate and timely information concerning
issues facing children, youth and families.
Convening– gathering key stakeholders to facilitate
improved coordination, cooperation and engagement.
Building Partnerships for Action– supporting,
coordinating or leading responses to concerns, and promoting effective
policies and strategies for adoption across the city.
