Gail Dorfman has served as the Hennepin County Commissioner for the 3rd district since March 1999. She co-chaired the commission that developed “Heading Home Hennepin: A Ten-Year Plan to End Homelessness in Minneapolis and Hennepin County.” ComissionerDorfman has consistently fought for county funding for affordable housing, and her efforts helped bring Project Homeless Connect to Minneapolis. In honor of her leadership in this effort, the National Alliance to End Homelessness gave Commissioner Dorfman their Public Sector Achievement Award for 2008.


Comissioner Dorfman began her government service in St. Louis Park – as a city council member from 1991 to 1995, and as mayor from 1996 to 1999. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Ohio State University and a Masters in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
