Jo Haberman, Strategic Coordination Director, joined Minneapolis Youth Coordinating Board in 2010 following more than 20 years in community organizing and more than 10 years in youth work. In her role at YCB, Jo coordinates the We Want You Back Campaign, a public awareness and outreach effort in partnership with Minneapolis Public Schools’ We Want You Back Program, re-engaging un-enrolled young people in programs or schools that help them complete high school credits and earn their diploma. Jo also coordinates YCB’s collaboration with youth worker support efforts across the city.
A native of North Minneapolis, Jo received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota. After working directly with Minneapolis youth and families in residential, day treatment, and runaway program settings, Jo volunteered as adult mentor with the first youth-organized GLBT youth support program in Minneapolis. Jo’s community organizing experience includes work with local and statewide leaders, communities, and organizations on a range of issues, including: neighborhood improvement, community development, environmental protection, racial and economic equity, GLBT equality, and interfaith progressive action. A commitment to collaboration has been at the heart of Jo’s community work.
