Thank you message from 2010 Day of Action

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your tremendous volunteer efforts on Saturday, September 11th during our We Want You Back Day of Action. It was an incredible day.

We went into the the day's citywide door knocking event on a high note having already connected 57 high school-age students, 162 middle school students, and 28 adult basic education students during our summer of community outreach.

Our volunteers numbered almost 300 and with your help and enthusiasm, we knocked on thousands of doors and have begun to connect almost 100 more young people with a school or program so that they can get back on a path to graduation.

We know you have moving stories from the day’s conversations, and if you would like to share them with others, please email your comments and/or photos to: communications@mpls.k12.mn.us. We will capture the inspiration and momentum of the day’s activities and share it with others to build an even larger network of support for future efforts.

We know several volunteers from the morning came back to the Park Board and We Want You Back headquarters, turned in their maps, picked up new ones and turned right around and went back out for the afternoon! That is proof positive of how rewarding and meaningful this effort is to us, to our young people and to our city.

Thanks to our cosponsors, volunteers, and contributors.

We have already begun planning for next year’s Day of Action and for a continued strong partnership between Minneapolis Public Schools and Minneapolis Youth Coordinating Board.  Our campaign and program to reach and help dropouts will be sustained throughout the year. We hope we can count on your continuing support for We Want You Back and for all of our young people.

Thank you!

Superintendent Bernadeia Johnson                Mayor R.T. Rybak
