Minneapolis Way to Grow
Minneapolis Way to Grow (WTG) is a citywide school readiness
program that seeks to assist families and children (newborn
to six years old) through a community driven approach that
builds on family strengths and the natural support systems
within each community. WTG connects families with services
and resources available in their community and encourages
prevention and early intervention services. Way to Grow becomes
an independent non-profit agency in 2004.
Family Resource Workers are at the heart of Way to Grow activities.
These individuals, who are often members of the communities
they serve, establish supportive relationships with families,
help identify family strengths, make referrals and facilitate
access to any needed services such as preventative health
care, parent education, child care and resources to meet basic
needs. To help families develop informal connections, Way
to Grow sites also sponsor events such as cooking classes,
drop-in days for parents and kids, summer picnics and bicycle
safety fairs. Additionally, each Way to Grow site also makes
hundreds of referrals per year for families seeking information
only.
