Your experience of safety matters

The Minneapolis Youth Coordinating Board is listening. Our Youth and Family Safety Perceptions Study asks Minneapolis residents how safe young people and families actually feel — in their neighborhoods, on transit, in parks and youth spaces, and in everyday life. Data collection is open this summer, and we want to hear from you.

What the survey is for

Safety is a compound story. How safe people feel depends on crime exposure, trust in institutions like the police, 911, schools, parks and transit, transportation and mobility, access to youth spaces, public conflict, and family stability. This study measures those conditions from 2023 through 2026 so the YCB and its partners — the City of Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minneapolis Public Schools, and the Park & Recreation Board — can coordinate youth-centered responses where they are needed most. Responses feed anonymous neighborhood summaries and a GIS dashboard that guide policy briefings and interventions.

Who can take it

  • Young adults ages 18–24
  • Parents and caregivers of children and youth (ages 0–24)
  • Adults who work with or serve young people
  • Anyone connected to Minneapolis

We especially want to hear from residents of North and South Minneapolis, transit-reliant riders, caregivers, and people connected to youth spaces.

Your privacy is protected

The survey is completely anonymous. It does not collect your name, email, phone number, address, immigration status, or school name, and it takes just a few minutes on any phone or computer. Please don’t include identifying details in open-text answers.
