Youth Congress
The MYC
The Minneapolis Youth Congress (MYC) is a representative group of young people who have a real voice in decisions and policies that affect youth in Minneapolis. MYC collaborates with elected officials to ensure the needs and perspectives of young people are included in the city’s work.
MYC Committees

Education
Members lead and take part in projects, group discussions, and community conversations that focus on the issues young people face in their education. They work to inform youth, parents, and other adults about topics that matter most to students. These include closing the discipline gap, improving student-teacher relationships, finding alternatives to out-of-school suspensions, and promoting racial and cultural equity in schools.
Housing
Members learn about different types of housing, such as affordable, opportunity, and workforce housing. They also explore important topics such as areas of concentrated poverty, Minnesota’s housing policies, and how housing can be more inclusive and supportive of diverse communities.
Employment
Members support youth employment by helping lead the annual Hennepin County Teen Job Fair, facilitating job readiness workshops, and partnering with the Teen Council and the Step-Up program through the Minneapolis Community Planning and Economic Development Department.
Transportation and Green
Members explore ways to make the public transit system in the Twin Cities more youth-friendly. They partner with the Metropolitan Council to share ideas and ensure that young voices help shape the future of transportation.
Health
Members address a wide range of health issues, including advocating for comprehensive sex education and raising awareness about human sex trafficking. They work with youth, businesses, and decision makers to recognize warning signs and collaborate on solutions.
